About Drew Alpine owner/director of ADC Ltd

I am an HNC qualified Senior Design Engineer with over 20 years’ experience in the design & manufacturing industry. Specialising, predominantly, in forklift vehicle design & other mechanical & hydraulic lifting equipment. My experience covers the design of small individual components through to large multi-component assemblies taking a design from initial prototype sketches through to concept models and production/manufacturing drawings. I am artistic, self-motivated and hardworking and advanced user of Autodesk Inventor, Autocad, CorelDraw, & MS Office, with basic knowledge of 3D Studio Max, Solidworks and Photoshop
Work experience
Previous to Alpine design Consultants Ltd I have worked in a number of different roles all which have helped build on my knowledge and experience.
Sept 2001 – Dec 2017
Senior Design Engineer at Translift Bendi Ltd
Working initially with the Chairman and inventor of the Bendi articulated forklift truck my main task was to translate his ideas into reality. Developing new and existing products from initial concept sketches through to prototype 3D models and eventually to a manufactured product. In 2008 the chairman retired and I then ran the design office feeding from the input of senior management, sales teams & customer requirements.
During this time I was heavily involved in the design and development of many innovative new products as well as the improvement of existing designs, all incorporating mechanical, electrical and hydraulic components as well as steel fabrications/sheet metal work castings and plastics. Often these designs involved manual calculations for stress, weight distribution and loading which I carried out.
I also regularly produced technical manuals & artwork from solid models, hand sketches and manipulated images for promotional aids.
March 1999 – Sept 2001
Design Engineer at Youngs Lifting Ltd
Youngs Lifting Ltd designed and manufactured Hydraulic & Mechanical lifting equipment (hydraulic jacks/cylinder and worm gear/toe jacks). Working in a small team under the MD my main task was the production of manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD.This led to me managing projects and all the tasks which this requires, ie designing, purchasing, costing, testing etc. I was also involved in the production of Technical Catalogues
March 1997 – Jan 1999
Draughtsman at Gibson Hydraulic Systems Ltd
At Gibsons I was employed as a draughtsman using Autocad to produce manufacturing drawings. The main focus was specialist large hydraulic cylinders and strand jacks. I also used 3D in Autocad to create product presentations to aid sales.
Sept 1995 – Sept 1996
Trainee AutoCAD technician at Haswell Ltd.
At Haswells I used my basic knowledge of Autocad to produce layouts & plans for sewerage systems. This experience improved my 2D CAD skills significantly.
